West Raynham Lake
On the private estate of W Raynham Hall, owned by the Townshend family. A large lake adjacent to the R Wensum surrounded by, at the south end, open parkland with mature trees and, at the north end thick scrub and reed beds.
Species Waterfowl and waders, including Pink-footed Goose on adjacent grazing land, Raptors, Winter and Summer migrants in parkland.
Access: To the estate, access from A1065 at E Raynham (signposted to St Margaret’s Church). Park on roadside and view the south end from here, TF879254. There is no access to the lake’s shores. No vehicle access beyond the cattle grid nr. the church but public footpath through farm yard to north end TF875259 – views of the lake are now compromised by dense vegetation but geese and passerines viewable in paddocks.
