Swaffham Forest
A series of large chunks of coniferous woodland managed (but not all owned) by the Forestry Commission. Almost exclusively to the immediate south and west of the market town of Swaffham.
Species: Year round: Willow Tit, Woodcock, Woodlark, Buzzard. Both Goshawk and Crossbill may be present but often require much effort to find. Winter: Finches, including Siskin, Brambling, Lesser Redpoll and occasionally Common Redpoll. Summer: Nightjar, Tree Pipit.
Access: Much is of free public access with restricted areas well signposted. Car parks at TF767088, TF791068 and TF782061 but parking is easy throughout, so long as forestry gateways are kept clear. Villages within the area include Cockley Cley and Drymere.
