Boughton Fen
S.S.S.I. comprising 44 acres of reedbed, scrub and grassland, situated 2km NW of Stoke Ferry. Common land owned and managed by Boughton Parish Council.
Species: Year round: Water Rail (common in winter), Marsh Harrier, Bearded Tit, Cetti’s Warbler. Winter: Finches including Brambling. Summer: Warblers, Hobby, Nightingale, Turtle Dove. Late summer reedbed Swallow roost.
Rarities have included River Warbler, Bittern, Hawfinch and Great Grey Shrike.
Access: Free public access with signposted Wildlife Walk around the perimeter. Roadside parking, but do not obstruct farm gateways.
